It's Time To Touch Base (And THAT Article From This Week)

There was an article published earlier this week with a very enticing headline that other outlets have since also repeated. I have not and will not post that link here, because the information in said article is just wishful thinking on the part of people who are, essentially, asking for jobs. As much as I support the creative endeavors of the people involved, I cannot and will not contribute to the spread of information that, unfortunately, will now be talked of as truth for the foreseeable future.

This is not the first time baseless TMNT rumors have been spread, and it won't be the last. Earlier this year there was what seemed to be credible information regarding a TMNT project that I did share with excitement. However, as soon as it was revealed that there was no such project in the works, I quickly retracted and corrected that information.

One of the reasons I created Ninja Pizza in the first place, way back in 2007, was because no one else was reporting news that would be of interest to fans, or they were similarly spinning tales of projects that had no truth to them. I have always been a one-person crew and my ability to provide updates has changed over the years. I work a full-time job and I train in karate five days a week. If I see something cool, I can share it in seconds through Facebook or Twitter and go on with my day. Versus spending exponentially more time rewriting the information and publishing it on NinjaPizza.net just to earn maybe a few pennies through Google AdSense.

While many of you have expressed your thanks throughout the years (and I am thankful to all of you), many people also get mad at me for telling them things they don't like, or sharing information they aren't interested in, or expressing my dislike for certain things, and on and on and on. That's fine. I am used to people not liking me. And while I can possibly be a little blunt with my words at times, everything I say, good and bad, is said with passion for characters that I really do want to see flourish in new storytelling and other creative projects. But encouraging baseless wishful thinking just doesn't lead to that.

I hope that those of you still following me here will keep checking in and paying attention to what I do and don't share. If I don't share something that seems relevant, there's probably a reason for that. Thank you.

Not Missing In Action! The Action Is Now On Facebook!

 Hi, Everyone!

It's been a long time since I've done a proper article on the website. That is largely because it has become much more efficient to use current social media platforms to get the latest news to you the fastest way possible. This has mainly been happening through Facebook, with attempts to make sure the same information finds its way to Twitter. And unfortunately, the automation that pushed updates to all of the different platforms, including this website, has become a bit unreliable.

With San Diego Comic-Con happening next week, news has been flying pretty fast and furious.

And in addition to convention prep, the IDW comic threw us a curveball last week when they introduced their fifth (female) turtle, Jennika! ComicBook.com has a really great write up that can get you caught up on the story if you're behind in your reading (like I am!).

A couple months ago the Batman vs. TMNT movie was released to much fanfare and overall fan approval. And now in the upcoming months there will be a staggered release of tie-in action figures!

Meanwhile, this year is the 35th anniversary of the TMNT! YAY! What new adventures await our gang of green? Well, hopefully we'll get some clues at Comic-Con next week, and I will be there relaying all of the info to you!

Again, your best way to follow will be on the Facebook page (be sure to set up notifications!). I will be posting live updates throughout all of the TMNT panels as they happen. And then throughout the whole weekend there will be other updates as I find them!

"Out of the Shadows" Wins Weekend Box Office with $35.3 Million

According to Box Office Mojo, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows finished its opening weekend with an estimated $35.3 million in earnings. This is down approximately $30 million from 2014's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which finished its opening weekend with $65.5 million.

This was enough to win the weekend in the US, beating out last weekend's winner, X-Men: Apocalypse.

The top five movies for the weekend were:
1) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows
2) X-Men: Apocalypse
3) Me Before You
4) Alice Through the Looking Glass
5) The Angry Birds Movie

Last month, as part of the promotional effort for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, the Turtles' Lair was listed on Airbnb for fans to book a stay. The apartment in New York City was fully decked with Turtles gear, as well as having the complete sewer vibe. And of course, all of the available listings were immediately booked.

Now, for all of the fans who weren't able to stay in the Turtles' Lair, Nickelodeon is providing a 360° virtual reality tour of the space. From a compatible browser/viewer, check out the YouTube video below to explore!

The virtual reality tour lets fans experience the Lair in a special way and fill them in with facts like how the media wall is made up of over 40 vintage boomboxes found online and how over 75 pizza boxes labeled with bizarre topping combinations, like jelly bean and sausage or peanut butter and clams, are scattered throughout.

NECA Debuts 1/4 Scale 1990 Movie Donatello Action Figure at Toy Fair

If the recently revealed statues from Prime 1 Studios don't fit your budget (or your display space), it seems like NECA has a "compromise" to offer you. Depending on your collecting habits, it might not even be much of a compromise.

The first of a planned series of four, NECA's 1990 movie-style Donatello stands approximately 16.5" and features 30 points of articulation, including double knee joints. With an incredibly detailed sculpt, he comes with bo staff accessory and interchangeable hands.

Watch for Donatello to hit specialty toy retailers around June for about $100. The remaining Turtles should then be released one a quarter.

Prime 1 Studio Debuts 1990 TMNT Movie Statues at Tokyo Wonder Festival

Hey, everyone! Forgive me for a bunch of delayed reporting that is going to be coming your way in upcoming days. I took a little vacation and am now just getting back into the swing of things. And with Toy Fair happening in New York, plus other events, there's quite a bit of news to share!

Let's start with these pretty impressive 1/4 scale statues from Prime 1 Studio, which were on display recently in Tokyo at Wonder Festival. Of course, the really exciting thing about these is that they're based on the 1990 movie costumes by Jim Henson.

Prime 1 Studio has previously offered 1/4 scale statues of the 2014 movie Turtles, at a MSRP of $699-$749. These new statues will most likely be similarly priced, so they are definitely an investment. But if you are looking to add these to your collection, watch for them later this year from retailers such as Sideshow Collectibles.

First Look at "Out of the Shadows" Toys Reveals Kraang and the Technodrome

Well, it's 2016 and we're officially six months away from the next TMNT movie. "Out of the Shadows." Although we saw the first teaser trailer last month, with Toy Fair just around the corner, it's time for us to start getting yet more looks at what we can expect.

In an interview released just yesterday by Rolling Stone magazine, Michael Bay confirmed the presence of Krang in the movie. Now, Technodrome forum user DVD is giving us a look at Krang (actually, "Kraang") in toy form.

This page from an insert booklet shows what appears to be the first wave of action figures, including Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady, and Kraang. Whew, that's a lot of characters jammed into this movie. But wait, there's more!

That's right! We're getting the Technodrome! And it wouldn't be a TMNT toy line without motorcycles.

Bebop's and Rocksteady's bikes are actually in the movie; not sure if the Turtles will also have them. But we do know from the trailer that the Turtles have a "Tartaruga Brothers" converted garbage truck.

And, of course, it also gets a toy.

Deluxe figures, complete with kung fu action.

And finally, we've got 11" figures. But this is only the beginning of what's sure to be a busy year!

"TMNT: Out of the Shadows" Trailer Hits the Web

It's here! The first trailer for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows" is now available in full HD glory!

New Images from "TMNT: Out of the Shadows"

Yesterday, a short teaser video promised that we'd get the first TMNT 2 trailer today. But after the full two-and-a-half-minute trailer managed to leak, Paramount went to work sending out promotional images as well as the trailer (check the top post for that!).

The biggest news from this reveal is the title "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows," which is a change from the working title "Half Shell."

Promotional images show us the four Turtles (with new garb and gear), April O'Neil (Megan Fox) with Casey Jones (Stephen Amell), and Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly).

Here are a bunch of marketing words:
“TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS” is the sequel to the 2014 hit film “TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES.” The film is based on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters created by Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman and is directed by David Green (“EARTH TO ECHO”). Michael Bay (the “TRANSFORMERS franchise) returns to produce alongside his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form (“ TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES”), with Galen Walker and Scott Mednick (“TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES”) also producing.
Also returning for the sequel is Megan Fox (“TRANSFORMERS”) as April O’Neil, Will Arnett (“Arrested Development”) as Vernon Fenwick and the Turtles: Alan Ritchson as Raphael, Noel Fisher as Michelangelo, Pete Ploszek at Leonardo, and Jeremy Howard as Donatello. Rounding out the cast is Stephen Amell (“Arrow,”) as Casey Jones, Tyler Perry ("GONE GIRL", the "MADEA" franchise) as Baxter Stockman, Academy Award nominated actress Laura Linney (“The Big C”, “LOVE ACTUALLY”) as Chief Rebecca Vincent, Brian Tee (“JURASSIC WORLD”) as Shredder, WWE World Heavy Weight Champion Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly as Rocksteady and Gary Anthony Williams (“THE INTERNSHIP”) as Bebop.
And some Wanted posters featuring Bebop and Rocksteady.

"TMNT 2: Half Shell" Trailer Rumored to be in Front of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens"

In a video posted to Facebook, Stephen Amell (Casey Jones) seems to have confirmed that we will see the first trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Half Shell before the biggest movie of the year, Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Although he doesn't name the movie (Star Wars) by name, it does qualify as a "relatively big movie" that comes out this month.

This brief clip is embedded below. You can also see the full video on Facebook (skip to 11:08).
